At Borneo Bags, every piece we create carries a story—a story of resilience, craftsmanship, and sustainability.
Right now, three parcels of beautifully woven bags and upcycled earrings are making their way to us, crafted with love by our talented artisans in Borneo. But these earrings are more than just accessories—they are symbols of hope and empowerment.
A Sustainable Alternative 🌍
In many communities, logging companies force men—husbands, fathers, and sons—into work that ultimately threatens their families’ way of life. But we’ve been able to offer a small yet meaningful alternative: earrings handcrafted from recycled bicycle inner tubes.
Light as a feather and made with precision, these earrings require no extra postage—they simply nestle inside our woven bags, reducing costs and environmental impact.
Crafting Change, One Skill at a Time
Before we started working together, many of our artisans had never even set foot inside a post office. During the lockdown, when travel was impossible, we guided them through mailing their own creations for the first time. Today, they’ve not only mastered their craft but also gained invaluable skills in packaging and logistics.
Each pair of earrings is carefully cut and painted using Resene paints, brought over from New Zealand. The metallic shades dry quickly in the heat, requiring constant replenishment, but the result is stunning—stylish, durable, and deeply meaningful.
Handmade with Purpose
Every purchase supports these artisans directly—no middlemen, just people helping people. We airfreight everything to ensure fair trade and ethical practices, bringing their incredible craftsmanship straight to you.
So when you wear a pair of these earrings, you're not just making a fashion statement—you're supporting a movement.
Thank you for being part of the journey.

Hi, I saw one of your beautiful bags that a friend of mine got from the Maraekakaho Market Day last weekend here in Hawkes Bay. I have a small boutique Florist shop in the heart of Havelock North and am wondering if there would be scope to sell your bags in my shop…? It sounds like you have a couple of places around HB already but I’d love it if you’d consider us as a stockist also? Not sure if you have a wholesale price or how it would work but would love to hear from you. Have a look at our website – www.zinnia.co.nz for a feel of who we are.
Many thanks – I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Jenn
